The Button Project

BUTTON (copper, steel fastening hook)

 

This was my submission for The Button Project, an exhibition of more than 100 buttons organised by the Macclesfield Silk Museum to celebrate local button and silk manufacture skills and heritage. 

 

The theme, "Metamorphosis", is one that runs deep into a lot of my work, especially in my ongoing investigation into making and identity, as in my Earth series. I have therefore used the same copper pigmentation elements, while also adding pierced text, another common feature in my work. The button is much smaller than the picture suggests, with a diameter of 3cm.
