Badge of Honour

2012

BROOCH (copper, jar lid, enamel)

This was my very first piece of narrative jewellery and I am immensely attached to it. I was experimenting with new materials and constructions and the rather messy reults are still quite visible! Still, I was very happy to be able to build a tension pin mechanism that is completely concealed within the jar lid.

It was born as a satirical comment on the state of my country of birth. Ironically, it has grown into a real badge of honour marking an important milestone in my art jewellery practice. I still wear this with pride, mostly when I run or attend workshops, as a reminder of where it all started and of where it can go!
